The Bridging Minds Community
Welcome to our Bridging Minds Group! This is where we walk the walk, or as we say, build those bridges!
Can you imagine Republicans and Democrats — liberals and conservatives — getting together to talk politics?
We’ve been told it’s impossible, but we’re proving it can be done. With a commitment to the facts and the desire to put respect for others before our emotions, we’re changing the nature of politics from accusatory to proactive, thinking about what we can do together. Every conversation counts!
Members present topics from unbiased sources, share facts and opinions, and discuss all sides, knowing it’s okay to disagree. Hearing different perspectives make us more knowledgable and able to better understand each other and the complex country we love.
Working together is the answer, and building bridges across party lines is how we’re taking action to unite America!

Equipping Children With Skills to Handle Trauma
Fear-it can be a motivator and it can paralyze. My mom grew up with a lot of anxieties. It triggered fear in her, but also for those near to her. As an only child, I didn't have anyone to talk to about it, so the library became my destination. I was a pre-internet kid...
Las Vegas Massacre Survivor Tells Her Story Hoping to Find Answers
I'm a survivor of the Las Vegas mass shooting. Twenty-four hours after the experience and my eyes are still puffy and red. My stomach is still sour to the point I cannot eat. I only want to crawl into bed and stay there. Hide from the world. I think about the little...
The Value of Human Touch
The value of human touch is priceless. I’ve heard it said, and agree wholeheartedly, a hug is one of the best gifts you can give another that doesn’t cost a thing. A gift that benefits both the giver and the receiver…a true expression of love. Think about what we are...
The America of My Childhood and Its Quest For a ‘More Perfect Union’
I was six years old when bicentennial fever hit the United States and, in the months leading up to July 4, 1976, I wore a whole lot of red, white and blue to celebrate the occasion. I was just discovering American history and loved reading kids’ books about the...
Why I Unapologetically Take Time For Myself
“Why are you out at a Madonna concert? Shouldn't you be home with your three kids lol?” This comment was posted about a video I had just published on social media of me with my best friends at the Madame X Tour at BAM. I read it several times—and I didn’t “lol.” In...
Why I Gladly Share My Family Anecdotes On Social Media
People love to peek into the lives of others, which is why social media can be so appealing. When it comes to what to share or how much to share, that’s where things get sticky. The best example: “mom bloggers.” While the label doesn’t apply strictly to mothers (there...
Teens, Politics And The Importance Of Family Dinner
Since the 2016 election, the dinner table at my house has been a hotbed for debates, discussions and enlightenment. You see, I’m the mom of a teenager and a 20-something who both have very strong opinions—but they share their views in different ways. My daughter has...
I’m a Christian, but Here’s Why I Teach My Kids to Love People of All Faiths
While I am a Christian, admitting that openly online always feels a bit awkward. I don’t often share my faith on social media or on any public platform. I know the term “Christian” is often looked at in a negative light, having been used incorrectly to justify...
If It’s Tuesday, It’s Dad’s Night: Sharing Custody of Tween Children
Wherever you were when you said “I do” and declared your love for your husband, I doubt you anticipated that love dying. And I’m sure a future of shared custody and visitation rights didn’t occur to you when you were cradling your newborns in your arms. But somewhere...
Three Lessons I Learned from My Transgender Son (That Can Help All Parents)
When I was 20 weeks pregnant with my fourth baby, I told my midwife, Louise, that my husband and I desperately wanted to find out the gender of the baby. The homebirth midwifery practice we were using for my prenatal care and delivery didn’t order routine ultrasounds...
